I have an iPhone
I bought my iPhone today. I tried to wait until June but I just couldn’t. I like gadgets and it’s been several months since I bought anything new.
I texted my cousin V and told her about my phone. She couldn’t believe I bought one because I don’t like phones. However, I’ve discovered Twitter and now I get it. Short and sweet and just my kind of communication. I’ve been twittering all day. LOL.
Anyway I added a business line to my phone. So now I have three phone numbers I can be reached at. I have a bunch of books I need to purchase in the next few months, all business related. I’ve got a bunch of free books coming my way. I can’t wait to get them. I went by a local cafe and inquired about renting the conference room for a couple hours a month. $75 for the first hour and $25 for every hour after. It sure beats renting a conference room for $200+.
Anyways. I’m strapped for cash right now. My tax refund isn’t as big as I thought it was going to be. Dang. I also have to fix this rental property.
As far as my schedule goes, it completely slipped my mind that I have an appointment to get my bush lasered which conflicts with my Toastmasters. Dang, dang, dang.
I watched The Secret this weekend. It was wonderful. I liked it so much I bought the book. Everything The Secret says can been seen in the philosophies of very successful people. I’m going to put The Secret to the test.
First things first. Think only positive thoughts.
I run a successful business.
I receive checks in the mail.
I am a great leader.
I own a beautiful home.
I have a wonderful husband and three beautiful children.
I drive a Ford Fusion hybrid.
I make $250,000 a year.
I have great sex.
I am in good health.
I write oscar-winning screenplays.
Those are just my top 10. I’m not sure if I need to have great sex. Hmmm. What do you think? Have you read The Secret?
My week
I’ve been too busy to update my blog. Starting a home-based business is not easy. I’m still trying to think of ways to drive traffic to my e-commerce website.
I started a blog for by e-commerce site. All I need to do now is generate a couple articles on the products every week. So, if I don’t update this blog regularly, you’ll know why.
I’ve decided on getting myself an iPhone. I won’t be getting the phone until the new ones come out in June, so I will have to make due with my Motorola Razr. I don’t really like my Razr but since my other cell phone has been falling to pieces, I’m glad I bought my $20 Razr almost two years ago.
Anyway, it was hard to resist not buying the iPhone when I went to AT&T to pay my bill. I made my decision to buy the phone in June when I showed up for my meetup group and was the only person there. The meetup had been cancelled but I didn’t know that because I didn’t have access to the Internet to check my email.
I’ve been trying out more of the products I sell through my business and I’m very pleased to say that the chips and snack bars are really good.
I’ve got some really good news to announce. I gave my first speech with Toastmasters 4 Writers and I won for best speech! I’m so proud of myself. I can’t wait to give more speeches.
I’ve been reading everything I can on investing and building a business. My two favorite authors are Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump. Who better to learn from a billionaire and a millionaire.
Cellphones
I hate spending money on technology I don’t favor, like phones. I hate phones but I find them to be a necessity because pay phones are hard to come by in Southern California. I actually don’t think pay phones exist anymore. I haven’t seen one in ages.
My Motorola phone has served me well these last four years. I really hate to part with it because I get attached to things after using them for lengthy periods but my phone no longer satisfies my needs. I need something to keep up with my contacts, my calendar, and has GPS. I don’t necessarily need music or movies, but I do need to be able to listen to audio files.
Here’s the catch, I know I won’t have any compatibility issues with my iMac if I get the iPhone because Apple designs all gizmos and gadgets to work together. If I get the BlackBerry, I may run into some compatibility issues with my iMac. I tend to dislike things that aren’t compatible with my computer.
I’m also trying to figure out how much my monthly bill would be. I really want to spend $100/month on a phone bill for a phone I rarely use at the moment, but I do recognize my phone use will change now that I’m trying to build a business. I don’t plan on cold calling anyone, but I will need to keep in touch with people I meet (more for social purposes than business).
I think I’m going to start with the Motorola Razr I’ve had for the last two years. I purchased it for $20 with my current phone plan but never used it because I’m still using my old phone. I just have to go to AT&T to see if there’s anything I need to do to turn it on.
My cousin is absolutely amazed at how phone illiterate I am considering how much I love gadgets. Well, I attribute my computer literacy to the fact that use my computer for all my communication needs. It’s my phone, my tv, and really, who needs a phone when you can video chat, for FREE!
Post-New Year’s shopping
I’m so glad I only have 4 weeks left of school. I swear sometimes I just want to smack people.
Enough about school.
I just finish spending the gift certificates I received for Christmas. I purchased computer software (of course). I thought about upgrading to Leopard on my Powerbook G4; however, even if I did, I wouldn’t be able to upgrade other software programs because my computer isn’t Intel. So, I will be using iLife’08 on my laptop, and iLife ’09 on my iMac. I ended up purchasing Yummy FTP, iLife ’09, and Quicktime Pro 7.
I’ve a lot things I want to do when I finish with school. I have several scripts and short stories I want to write. I also want to get into photography more. I’m still debating on a camera to buy. So far, I know I’m going to get an Nikon, I just don’t know which model- D300 or D90.
I went to the doctor today to get more inhalers and a referral to a dermatologist. I didn’t get the referral. What I got was an ointment I have to put on my scalp twice a day. I cannot describe to you how rubbing ointment on my scalp is a good idea. I’m going to have to demand a referral to a dermatologist tomorrow because I don’t feel like walking around with greasy and flaky hair. Yeah! That’ll get me noticed.
Day 361

It seems whenever I make a change to my blog, I always end up screwing something up. You’d think a simple template change wouldn’t cause my blog to completely disappear but it did. Just like it normally does when I try to upgrade Wordpress. Because the the Wordpress software developers always want to upgrade Wordpress every other day (well, maybe not every other day but it sure feels like it). The newer version of Wordpress (2.7) will allow me to upgrade Wordpress from my blog’s admin section rather than having to upload all the files one by one through my web hosting provider. Great!
But for some reason, I don’t know what I did but you’d think a simple template upload would be easy.
It all started when I decided to upload to my blog using an FPT client application for easy file transfer from my computer to my ftp server. I started installed Yummy FTP and ClassicFTP and decided I would use ClassicFTP because it’s free. Well, ClassicFTP is a piece of junk. When it uploaded files, it did not upload the files the way the files were in the original folders or it wouldn’t upload the files. For example, if the style.css file was in the main theme folder, Classic FTP would upload it to a sub folder in the main folder. Drat! Then I would have to move things back to the folders they were supposed to be in the first place.
Well, it turns out I should have just used Yummy. It comes with a 30-day free trial (I didn’t realize that). Anyways, if I get an American Express gift card, I’ll spending $25 on an license fee for Yummy FTP. I used it and it works but I don’t know what I did when I uploaded the templates to make it my blog not work.
I miss my blog!!! Hopefully, Dot5Hosting will be able to fix my boo boo. Enough about my stupid blog.
I finally finished watching Don’t Mess with the Zohan. Three times is the charm I guess. It turned out better than I thought. My favorite line:
“Maybe it needs oxygen. It looks like it’s being strangled.”
LOL! Too funny.
I also watched Traitor. I didn’t like the movie. I think what I don’t understand about these two movies is the hate folks in the Middle East have. I just don’t get how they think terrorism will solve anything.
I’m glad I’m American.
What Happens in Vegas. It’s a really good movie. I really liked it. I think I’m going to buy in on DVD.
The Women. I didn’t like the movie at all.
I rented Wall-E but I haven’t watched it yet. I went to Yang Chow’s for some good Chinese food.
.Mac
Apple is really making it difficult to see the $99/year price for a .Mac account unreasonable. I paid $98 for two-year web hosting with Dot5Hosting and that was the cheapest I could find on the net.
My contract with Dot5Hosting is up in May of next year. I’m seriously considering switching to a .Mac account though I’ll be paying twice as much for hosting my website. The features of .Mac combined with iLife ‘08 can’t be beat. At the moment, I’m storing my pictures at Flickr and Photobucket (I rarely use photobucket) and storing my videos at Blip.tv and Youtube. With a .Mac account, I could eliminate all the different websites I use to store my videos and photos. Plus, uploading videos and pictures to my blog will be a snap. No more copying and pasting code! I can’t wait until next year.
